Tankless Water Heaters FAQ

Tankless Water Heater FAQs

Tankless water heaters are becoming increasingly present in American homes, and it is clear to see why. They have many advantages over traditional water heaters and are an excellent investment for a family home. However, they are still relatively new to the USA, and people need more information on what they are, their benefits, and the negative aspects too! At Abend Service, we want to provide our customers with the best knowledge, which is why we wrote this blog on what you need to know about tankless water heaters.

What Is A Tankless Water Heater?

Tankless water heaters are a source of hot water for a family home. They heat water directly and allow for a constant source of hot water. We sometimes refer to them as “hot water on demand” devices. Tankless water heaters can provide between 2-5 gallons of water every minute. However, it is common for families with many children to install more than one tankless water heater in their homes. They do this to ensure enough hot water to fulfill all necessary tasks, like hot showers, washing dishes, and doing laundry.

The Advantages

The main advantage of tankless water heaters is that they use significantly less energy than heaters with tanks (between 30 and 50 percent). This saves the average American family a tremendous amount in energy costs per year. However, there are other advantages, like:

  • They’re compact, and you can mount them on a wall
  • They only heat water when you turn on the faucet
  • They eliminate the extra cost of water storage, meaning less energy and lower costs
  • They can supply continuous hot water
  • They are incredibly efficient, at around 98% or higher
  • They will last a long time within a household

The Disadvantages

However, as with any product, there are disadvantages to tankless water heaters! It’s essential to bear these in mind when considering whether to purchase one for your home. The disadvantages include:

  • The upfront cost of buying a tankless water heater
  • Smaller units will not be able to provide hot water for most households. That means to provide for an average US family; you might have to buy either a larger unit or multiple ones, which raised the entry price
  • They need specialized installation, which can come at a higher cost

While tankless water heaters can be costly to install, they do have an incredible array of advantages. They are super-efficient, leading to lower energy costs for the home. They are also able to supply a home with hot water continuously. While you may have to install a larger unit for your home, the pros do outweigh the cons in the long term.  That is if you can rationalize the upfront cost of purchasing them.
